A little bit of this and a little bit of that….

Bedford Village

This is where I want to live, (sometimes). In a community where things were simple in some ways. Where towns people stopped and talked for a while. They didn’t have road rage or beep because you took too long to get the horse and buggy going. I want a one stop shop, where you go into the General Store for postage stamps, staples ( I don’t mean what you hold paper together with) and friendly faces.  Where there was no fighting for that special toy at Christmas time, or standing in line for checkout.  There were no malls or fifteen different stores to purchase what we needed for around the house. That is the simplicity I’m talking about.

Here is my dream home. Where country decor was country decor. When you could sit around the fire and not worry about phone calls, cell phones to charge, or IPod’s to figure out. Where the family worked together at all times.

There are times when I do like the technology and the way we live today. The convenience of turning on the water at the kitchen sink or the convenience of an instant hot shower. The washer and dryer is nice along with the microwave. My cell phone comes in handy too.  OK, so I do like new as much as old. I just try to simplify the new.

Labor Day Weekend September 9, 2009

We traveled to Pennsylvania for Labor Day Weekend. There weren’t  many hotel rooms available for a reasonable price. Penn State had a home game and all the fans were in town. At least that is what the clerk told me while checking in and wanted me to know why the price was so expensive. I guess it’s called demand. We visited some places of interest and had a really great time. No cooking, cleaning or phones, there was traffic.  Sometimes you can’t have it all.

We stayed in a really neat area with lots of shopping, dining and entertainment within walking distance. We decided to go bowling after dinner. My husband found out he liked bowling better than what he thought.

I was on a league at one time. Yes, the Hampshire Review staff had a team. We took tenth place. Guess how many teams there were? Answer – ten.  We had fun. We were the water cooler talk in the office that year, or should I say we were the news. “Hampshire Review Headliners bowling team took tenth out of ten teams. They are not having a good season at all.”

We noticed a 29 acre Flea Market  along the interstate and decided to stop in. I was overwhelmed. Sometimes I am in the mood to go through someones used stuff and other times I’m not. I was in the mood. I noticed baskets, crocks, and all kinds of goodies. I have been looking for a 20 gallon crock. I had went to an auction not long ago and they had one that went for $400. I did not want one that bad. I did find one at this flea market that is a bean crock. The lady told me it has a number 8 on it and she has had it for a long time. It has been under her cabinet and she decided to bring it this weekend to sell. I believed her, it is now in my home. I do know a little about old crocks. I liked it and it is very heavy and has a number 8 which means something. So I bought it.

I have not found my 20 gal. crock at a reasonable price. YET. Hey, all this farming stuff coming in, I will get my crock.

May Day, May Day Can Anyone Help? May 20, 2009

Wow, has May been a busy month for me and it is still going strong. I had or will have all of the following; a death in the family, house construction going on, Mother’s Day, family birthday, 3 graduations- purchasing cards and planning for the trips to see the graduate, school field trip, daughter’s eye glass appointment, hair appointments and lining up a sitter for summer.

The usual tasks did not stop and make room for all the above. I still had to work, grocery shop, clean the house, wash clothes, help with homework and test studying.

On top of all the above, above my husband has had my mind swimming with all this cow/farm stuff. I am so ready to leave it up to him. “Ahuh yes, honey whatever you want. Oh yes, I agree.” is what comes out of my mouth when he mentions buying farm equipment, buying more cows maybe a bull, need to pick up the last of my hay, have to finish the fence, need a bigger tractor, need a bigger truck to pull bigger tractor, need a stock trailer, have to have stock trailer inspected now, want to add a steal guard to front of stock trailer and on and on.

However, now that I have written this in my blog, I had better pay more attention sounds like alot of money going out of the check book. I don’t agree with that because my youngest and I want a horse. Well the hubby told me they cost too much. They are hay burners. Now read the above paragraph again and tell me if cows aren’t expensive. The hubby says you can’t eat the horse, but we can a cow. I will say no more. That just sounds awful.

Have a safe Memorial Day weekend.

Well, I am saying good bye again to someone very special. An uncle from my dad’s side of the family passed away this morning. He was married to my dad’s sister. He was considered more family than in-law. He was always so calm natured. He never seemed to get upset. I will always remember him. He was so kind when I called and asked if Aunt Naomi could travel to Baltimore with me and stay for a week. We were going to take care of my dad. We met in a parking lot about half way between our two homes. Uncle Marshall made the comment that he could not say no and that I needed someone to support me. As usual, he put others first.

The upsetting thing is he didn’t have a chance. He was diagnosed with pancreas cancer. They say it is worse than brain cancer. It spreads throughout the body instantly through the liver. The good thing is he went peacefully and surrounded by family. I think he was ready. He believed in God. I remember him telling me not long ago if I come across bibles anywhere to pick them up, he would pay me back. He handed them out to anyone he felt could use one. What a way to spread the word of God.
